Focus on what we can control
Updated: Sep 8
There are so many things outside of our control; health, finances, employment, relationships, family, etc. This can be hard to accept. It can leave us spinning out wheels, worrying, searching endlessly for answers that don’t exist. But as long as we’re focusing on questions with unknowable answers and circumstances outside of our personal control, this strategy will get us nowhere—aside from feeling drained, anxious, and overwhelmed.
There are two ways of managing stress.
- The first is accepting that there are certain stressors that you can not change either because it is not within your power to change them or you have no control over them.
-The second is changing the stressors that you can change.
In order to successfully manage stress it is important to be able to identify which stressors you can control and which ones you can not control.
What is within your control to manage today?
Maybe it's how you respond to a situation, or taking a moment to do something nice for yourself or someone else. Maybe it's making a concrete plan or setting a SMART goal.
Today, pinpoint one thing you can control in your current situation and and make it your focus.
